German White Extra Hardy Garlic is called, “the chef’s garlic” by garlic connoisseurs. This “porcelain” variety produces extremely hardy garlic seed. The bulbs sport an outer white skin, with garlic seed cloves that have a reddish tint on the inside wrappers. The cloves peel easily, and store well into February and longer. We trialed many different varieties of garlic and German White is the hardiest garlic seed variety we have tried.  It easily survives the -30F and even -40F Northern Vermont winters on our organic garlic farm. Year after year German White produced the largest bulbs and most consistent crop, so now it is the only variety we grow.

Our German White Extra Hardy Garlic is certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers (VOF) and tested free of garlic bloat nematode by Cornell University Extension.  We have grown organic garlic on Eastview Farm since the early 1990’s and we’re proud to offer you the very best garlic seed. Read more about our farm and growing practices…

Our hardy garlic seed bulbs are large, averaging 2.25 inches in diameter and 6-7  bulbs per pound. Each bulb contains 4-5 large cloves that go a long way when cooking and easily survive the harshest winters. 1lb of seed will give you approximately 24-35 seeds for planting. If you order 4lbs you will yield around 100 garlic bulbs next year, enough to have 2 bulbs per week for cooking!

What makes our seed garlic special?

  1. 20 years of selection on our organic garlic seed farm for cold hardiness, superior flavor and storage qualities.  We believe that this is the best garlic you can buy if you have long, cold winters like we do.
  2. Nutrient dense bulbs: our 2020 cured garlic bulbs scored a 44 on our BRIX test. This beats the International Ag Labs “excellent” score of 40 (see chart below). A high BRIX score indicates that our garlic plants are healthy and strong and our garlic has scored higher than 40 on our yearly BRIX test every year since we began testing in 2015!
High numbers indicate strong and healthy plants
  3. We grow our garlic in a low-impact, sustainable way. We plant in the same wide beds every year and we leave grass, clover and flowers growing between each bed as a habitat for beneficial insects. After the harvest we plant a green manure crop that protects the soil until the next planting.  We test our soil each fall and supplement as necessary with organic fertilizers and compost before we plant. Learn more about how we plant our garlic.
  4. Certified organic and tested free of garlic bloat nematode.  This invasive pest can ruin your crop.

All garlic orders will be shipped in our all natural, biodegradable wood curl packaging called Sylvacurl. The shavings can be added to your compost pail, soil at planting time or mulch layer.

Customer Testimonials

“Our garlic was the envy of the Morrisville Community Garden. Thank you Eastview Farm!”

― Josh Fox, Morrisville VT

Started planting your garlic… beautiful! Thank you!

― Gaye Parise, Wassaic NY

My garlic is beyond beautiful, I’d like to buy more seed for the fall.

― Rhetta Calin, NH

I’ve had 98-99% success rate with your garlic and its delicious!

― Steve Guterres, Wolcott VT

You have to start with quality to get quality.

― Billy Canane, Andover MA

I have only planted garlic twice before.  Each time the scapes were thin and tasty.

YOUR garlic seed created MASSIVE scapes – never seen anything like it.

And, each of the 80-90 plants have very thick stalks.

I can hardly wait til harvest time.

― Chris Mead from Pennsylvania
